If you are unsure which sites are likely to have the type of map or cartographic information you need, Data.gov is a good place to start. The Interactive Data sets page allows you to browse by data type eg. maps and the by agency or topic of interest.

Landsat images of events, cities, and geographic/geologic features are available on this site. There is also a link to "Earth as Art" where you can "view our planet through the beautiful images taken by the Landsat-7 satellite - and most recently, the Terra Satellite's Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER)."

"Rutgers University, has generated digital geospatial data, technical reports, maps/galleries, and more in support of various on-going and past research, projects, and programs." They also have a significant list of other sources of Geo-spacial data.

"The USGS Global Visualization Viewer is a quick and easy online search and order tool for selected satellite and aerial data." This site requires the use of popup windows

Includes 3 sections of maps: 1) Country Profile Maps/General Maps, 2) Mission Maps (includes latest deployment maps and political operations of the UN), 3) Thematic Maps (e.g. maps of UN civilian staff locations, historic world/region maps, Haiti earthquake maps)
