"Watchdogs"

Ever watch a campaign commercial, or hear a candidate make an assertion, and wonder, "Is that true?" If you have, then you'll probably want to check out these two sites, which monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players.

Campaign Finance

These sites provide access to campaign finance reports at the federal and state levels, as well as analyses of the influence of money on U.S. politics.

  • Federal Election Commission (FEC)
  • The campaign finance reports for members of congress and congressional candidates can be found here.

  • Follow the Money
Sponsored by the National Institute on Money in State Politics, this site includes a state-level campaign finance database, as well as reports and analyses of the role of money in state-level elections.

  • Open Secrets
Sponsored by the Center for Responsive Politics, this is a good source for information on how much money different industries or interest groups have contributed to certain candidates or parties.
