Affordable Learning for Students at Denison

Textbooks are expensive--what else can you do?

Textbooks are Expensive

The library doesn’t routinely buy course textbooks. If you are looking for textbooks for your classes, here are some options:

Check Consort or OhioLink. If your class is reading classic literature, such as Plato’s Republic, or a well-known author such as Shakespeare or Maya Angelou, the library will probably have multiple copies.

Check Course Reserves. For more traditional tomes, such as Introduction to Astronomy, see if your instructor has put a personal copy on reserve for your class or would consider doing so.

You can buy new or used textbooks, rent your textbooks, or find e-texts and e-textbooks (some $/some free). Use the buttons at left to explore each option.

To ensure you are getting the right book, check the title, author, edition/year before buying or renting. If you have it, use the ISBN; the ISBN is a unique 10 or 13-digit number available from your professor or the campus bookstore.

Faculty members have a role in affordability, too. See "Especially for faculty" on the left to explore ways you can find lower-cost or no-cost texts for your classes, or use freely-available library resources more broadly.
