Día de los Muertos: Honoring Denison's Beloved Dead

Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead is a time to honor loved ones who no longer walk this Earth. Día de los Muertos is a cherished tradition in many countries where we remember and celebrate the lives of those who have passed. Central to the Mexican tradition is the creation of the ofrenda (altar) — adorned with photos, candles, flowers, and meaningful items that honor our departed loved ones.

We invite families and individuals to take part in the ofrenda/altar installations by submitting photos for their departed loved one to be incorporated in one of the of the four ofrendas (altars) on campus:

  • Denison Libraries
  • The Center for Belonging and Inclusion
  • The Spiritual Life Center
  • La Fuerza Latina

We are looking for submissions that will help us celebrate and honor all walks of life and expressions in our Denison community. Photos will be placed on the ofrendas/altars beginning Monday, October 21st. We will be hosting a walking tour which will take place on Thursday, October 31st from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

This Project is sponsored by: The Center for Belonging and Inclusion, The Spiritual Life Center,  La Fuerza Latina, & BLASS
