Why Open Access?

Scholarly communication is becoming more and more expensive as the costs of online journal subscriptions rise.  As a result, a much greater proportion of academic library budgets is spent on online databases to get students and researchers access to new journal articles.  Open Access publishing is one response to this trend.

Open Access journals are available online and are free to users.

Open Access week raises awareness of this alternative publishing method.
